Do I have a sleep disorder? The best way to diagnose or treat a sleep disorder is by spending a night in a sleep laboratory. Your GP can refer you to our Sleep Physician for a Sleep Study in our sleep lab.
A referral by your GP to the hospital’s Sleep Physician is required prior to making a sleep study booking. The Sleep Study service is located in three single rooms within the Banksia in-patient ward. A sleep study monitors your sleep and tells your doctor about the quality of your sleep and whether disturbances to your breathing are occurring that are affecting your health. The hospital’s sleep study service is open on Sunday and Monday nights. Admission time is at 7.30pm and you should try to replicate your normal evening routing prior to presenting to the hospital. Eat your normal dinner at home, if you usually consume alcohol then consume your usual amount. Sleep study patients may also like to bring their own pillow to hospital. Take your routine medications unless you are instructed otherwise by your doctor. You will be ready for discharge from the hospital at 7am the following morning after a light breakfast.
