Dr Richard Barton is a Melbourne-based Specialist Plastic Surgeon who consults and operates in Mildura alongside his Melbourne practice. His private practice has a particular focus on facial aesthetic surgery — facelift, neck lift, brow lift, blepharoplasty and rhinoplasty — and also includes surgery of the breast and body, post-weight-loss body contouring, and gender-affirming surgery.
He graduated in Medicine from the University of Queensland in 1998 and completed his plastic and reconstructive surgical training in Melbourne, admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2010. He then undertook dual international fellowship training: first as Senior Plastic Surgical Fellow and Consultant in reconstructive microsurgery at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom, and subsequently as Adult Craniofacial Fellow at Vancouver General Hospital, University of British Columbia. That training covers both microsurgical reconstruction and adult craniomaxillofacial surgery, including rhinoplasty and facial aesthetic surgery.
Dr Barton is Director of Head and Neck Cancer Surgery at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he leads Victoria’s largest head and neck cancer surgical service, and has held consultant appointments at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred since 2013. He is also Director of the International Advanced Reconstructive Microsurgery Fellowship at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and holds regional faculty appointment with AO Craniomaxillofacial for Asia-Pacific education courses. He was elected to the National Council of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2024 and is currently serving a second term, sitting on the Therapeutic Procedures and Finance, Investment and Risk subcommittees.
He is a member of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) and is certified by the Australian and New Zealand Board of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery (ANZBCPS).
Dr Barton’s approach is careful and measured. He takes the time to understand what matters most to each patient, and places a strong emphasis on continuity of care and postoperative support — from the first consultation through to full recovery. All surgery carries risk and individual results vary; he considers a thorough, unhurried assessment and clear discussion of those risks to be a necessary part of any decision to proceed.

Appointments
Visiting Medical Officer, Mildura Private Hospital. Also appointed at Epworth Richmond and Epworth Eastern, St Vincent’s Private Hospital Kew and East Melbourne, Ramsay Surgical Centre Glenferrie, and Vermont Private Hospital.
