Meeting health standards

Accreditation is a formal process where a recognised body assesses whether a health care organisation meets a set of agreed health standards. At Mildura Health Private Hospital (MHPH) this accreditation body is Global-Mark who assesses the hospital against the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) - Quality Management Systems.

The NSQHS Standards are a mandatory set of standards established by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare for all public and private hospitals. They provide a nationally consistent statement of the level of care consumers should be able to expect from health services. The Safety and Quality Indicator Report outlines some of MHPH's achievements in regard to the hospital's safety and quality performance.

MHPH is also accredited against the ISO 9001 - Quality Management Systems Standards which ensures that standardised levels of quality are applied across the organisation.

Clinical Care Standards

In addition to the safety and quality standards, the Commission have developed a range of clinical care standards related to specific high risk conditions, procedures and potential adverse outcomes. MHPH integrates these Clinical Care Standards into our policies and procedures.

Managing Risks and Improving Quality

At MHPH, we manage and monitor risks across many areas such as operational, financial, reputation and clinical risks. Effective risk management is vital in keeping our patients and staff safe and free from harm.

We aim to improve safety for patients and staff by minimising key risks and optimising the quality of the services we provide.

To assist with ensuring that quality management is consistently achieved in accordance with ISO 9001 and the NSQHS Standards, and to identify / determine the risks and opportunities which need to be actioned / addressed, the hospital’s risk register has been aligned with these Standards. The reporting processes of the hospital, which include but are not limited to the incident management system and audit schedule / register have also been aligned with these Standards. This enables actions and the implementation of improvement activities / processes to be easily identified, managed and evaluated.

We encourage all our staff to report all incidents using our incident reporting system so that we can monitor and track the effectiveness of our risk controls and prevent incidents occurring.
